The U.S. Department of Education issued a warning to schools “lying to students” after a Republic investigation highlighted claims that the University of Arizona’s newest online program misled studentsabout the cost and value of their degrees.

Gov. Katie Hobbs and two U.S. Senators were also critical of UA.

Here are just some of the events on this date in the past.

•	On this day in 1877: The first Wimbledon tournament began at the All England Croquet and Lawn Tennis Club in suburban London.
•	In 1943: Allied forces launched Operation Husky, which aimed at driving out the Axis control over the Mediterranean, notably Sicily. The operation led to the eventual downfall of Italian dictator Benito Mussolini.
•	In 1955: The Russell-Einstein Manifesto was released by mathematician Bertrand Russell during a news conference. Signed by renowned scientists at the time, the manifesto called on world leaders to heed the dangers of nuclear weapons and find peaceful resolutions to international conflicts.
•	In 2001: The British show “The Office” debuted on the BBC.
•	In 2011: Voters overwhelmingly chose independence and declared South Sudan a separate sovereign state from Sudan.
•	In 2020: WHO announced that the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes COVID-19, is transmissible through the air and could be spread by asymptomatic carriers.
