Class of 1967 – 55th Casual Reunion

Class of 1967 – 55th Reunion *After Party

Hosts: Samohi newlyweds, Ben and Bettyann (Grubb) Gage, along with their dear friend Kurt Mengel, welcome and invite all members of the Samohi Class of 1967 to join them at a 55th Reunion sunset event the historic Hotel Shangri-La (address above). We will be meeting on an informal basis at the 8th floor Oynx Rooftop Bar. Light snacks and beverages will be provided in Ben and Bettyann’s 5th floor ocean-view room and a full food and drink menu will be available from the hotel on a no-host basis.

Class of 1972 – 50th Reunion

The Class of 1972’s 50th Reunion will be on Saturday, September 10th at Hotel MDR, in Marina Del Rey, CA from 6:00pm to 11:30pm.

It will include a dinner buffet, DJ music, and a no host bar. All are welcome except no minors under 18 please. “The Reunion Committee” in Santa Clarita will be handling the event. Class of 1980 – 40th REUNION

We are thrilled to announce The Class of 1980 60th Birthday Celebration (AKA 40th reunion). Since the vast majority of this class was born in or around 1962, we think that partying together with the pandemic in our collective rear-view mirrors will be a terrific way to celebrate our common milestone. This will be a huge birthday bash and give everyone a chance to plan ahead, save some money, and attend in full force.
When: Saturday, October 8th, 2022 (6:00pm to 11:00pm)
Where: Le Méridien Hotel, Santa Monica CA, across from Samohi
Cost: $125 per person. NOTE: TICKETS MUST BE PURCHASED IN ADVANCE. The deadline is September 30th!

Class of 1973 – 50th REUNION

Hello, Samohi Class of 1973 classmates! Our 50th Reunion will be on Saturday, September 9th, 2023 at Duke’s in Malibu from 6:00pm-10:00 pm.

Not sure of the exact cost yet, but probably around $125.00 per person. If you’re planning to attend, I need a $50.00 per person deposit now. I need to get an idea of how many are seriously planning to attend. The deposit is refundable if you cancel at least 45 days prior to the event.

Hopefully there will be an All Class Picnic the same day at the school and anyone interested can meet there at the quad around 11:00 or so. Then I’ll be planning a breakfast/brunch at a local restaurant on Sunday morning for anyone that’s interested. (Not included in the cost of the reunion).

If you haven’t done so already, please join our Facebook group, as that’s where all the reunion info will be posted — Samohi Class of 1973. Please pass this info on to any classmates you’re in touch with.

Timmy Trumpet: ‘I’m officially a Mets fan for life’

Growing up in Australia, the musician Timothy Smith — stage name: Timmy Trumpet — knew little of baseball. Cricket was his closest brush with the sport.

Smith speaks in heavy Aussie accent, and he calls the field a “pitch.” When he stepped onto it wielding his black-and-gold trumpet Tuesday afternoon in New York, he revealed that he had never seen a live baseball game.

But now Smith is forever linked with Mets closer Edwin Díaz, whose success this season has turned his entrance music — “Narco,” by Smith and the Dutch DJ Blasterjaxx — into a phenomenon. Before Díaz enters games at Citi Field, stadium operators turn off the lights to prep fans for the first strains of trumpets. Plans are going well for the 2022 music festival. We have 40 bands on 40 porches with 40 sponsorships. We have 10+ tents in the Artisan Tent Village and 5 food trucks in the food court.

Who makes Troy, Ohio PorchFest happen?

It takes hundreds of people to make this festival come to life. The Troy-Hayner Cultural Center staff of 11 people work throughout the year to make the plans. Troy-Miami County Public Library staff members Bill Schlimme and DeMarcus Moody partner with us to build the Artisan Tent Village. We have over 20 people working together to build community on three different committees. There are five food trucks with their crews to bring us lunch and dinner. There are over a hundred musicians to make the music. Most importantly, there are over 25 businesses and donors within our community that come together to provide funds for our musicians. We hope you will join us in thanking these important sponsors.

So What is PorchFest?

Imagine 40 bands in a variety of styles and genres playing throughout the Southwest Historic district on porches, in side-yards, lots and patios.

Imagine 15+ artisan and food vendors in a tent village at the Hayner. Visit the artists, grab some lunch and plot your concert tour with a walk-able map of the event.

Choose your favorite bands. Tour one concert after the other with about seven concerts starting each hour! –> Be sure to bring some bills to put in your favorite band’s tip jars!

Head back to the Hayner for some dinner and at 6 pm enjoy Dayton Salsa Project on Hayner’s big front porch.

It’s almost time for the professional football season, which means the annual Trilogy Survivor Pool is back as well!

It doesn’t matter if you’re an avid football fan or not, the Trilogy Survivor Pool is fun and free for all Members – from those who can name every QB in the League to those who root for a team based on the color of their jersey.

Each week, Members will choose one team to win outright. If your team wins, you move on to the next week. If your team loses, you’re out. No picking the same team twice. If you do not make a pick, you will be eliminated. It’s as simple as that!

Those who make it the furthest at each Trilogy community will win!

NEWS: Lime Rock Park Historic Festival Opens with Huge…

LIME ROCK PARK HISTORIC FESTIVAL OPENS WITH HUGE FIELDS OF VINTAGE RACE CARS

LAKEVILLE, CT (2 September 2022)- Perfect racing weather greeted more than 200 vintage race cars at Lime Rock Park as the first official day of on track action started on Friday for the Historic Festival 40 presented by Corvette.

Nine run groups delivered a diverse and dynamic field, animating Lime Rock Park’s 1.5 miles with a bevy of sound echoed by non-stop, on-track action to open the racing activities for the traditional Labor Day Weekend event.

As the featured marque of Historic Festival 40, Corvettes were well represented across two different run groups with a dozen examples taking to the track for practice and qualifying. Everything from a 1963 Corvette Grand Sport from the Revs Institute to Hagerty Barn Find’s Tom Cotter in a 1964 Corvette to a 1978 Corvette that raced in both IMSA and Trans Am were a part of the action.

A full field of Historic Trans Am class rattled the ground with six of the seven manufacturer brands that competed in the over 2.0L class represented, including a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro run by Penske Racing alongside a 1972 Penske AMC Javelin and Sam Posey’s Dodge Challenger.

Kicking off the first of the five day celebration, the Historic Festival Parade presented by Salisbury Bank and Falls Village Inn toured through the local Connecticut towns on Thursday with nearly 130 vintage cars in procession before stopping in Falls Village for a well attended street fair.

Lime Rock Park’s HF40 festivities continue through Labor Day, celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Chevrolet Corvette with a full schedule of racing on Saturday and Monday, along with Sunday in The Park and the Gathering of the Marques on Sunday.

Flex day tickets for Saturday or Monday are available at the gate for $75. Sunday in The Park tickets are $40. Children 12 and under are free as well as all active military and veterans.
