| “Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst.” (1 Timothy 1:15) This could be the strongest statement about Christmas that has ever been delivered. Of course that is debatable, but the apostle Paul in writing to Timothy really drops a massive truth bomb here in a big way. Often this time of year we focus on the beautiful dynamic of Jesus coming to our world, but sometimes we fail to focus deeply on the “why” of His coming. Jesus came to our turf on the most incredible rescue mission ever. It was a rescue mission beyond comprehension. Every person (except one) was affected by a condition of our hearts, sin, that separated us from the Lord, and there was nothing we could do to rescue ourselves. That is why Jesus departed from His throne and came to Earth. It was to rescue every single one of us. And where we could do nothing to rescue ourselves, Jesus stepped in as the most significant game changer ever. Paul not only identified the “why” behind Jesus coming to our world, but he also clearly declared that he himself was in huge need of a savior as he considered himself the worst of all sinners. Question: What does that make you think when you think about Jesus coming into the world with a purpose to save or rescue? That Jesus had an intense purpose and it involved your rescue? Challenge: These days as we journey through the rest of December aim to remember the purpose of Jesus, to save sinners. Prayer: Jesus, I am so thankful for your clear purpose and for your resolve in going to the cross for all of us.
