Access b-roll of the processing at San Ysidro Port of Entry here.
Today, DHS began the first step in a phased approach to restore safe and orderly processing at the Southwest Border. DHS and its international partners have now initiated the virtual registration process for individuals who had been forced to return to Mexico under the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP) and have a pending case before the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR). The United States is continuing to strictly enforce existing immigration laws and border security measures. Individuals should not approach the border, including at designated ports of entry, unless and until they are approved and receive appointment information through the remote registration process.
DHS began processing a limited number of individuals today through the San Ysidro Port of Entry who were registered ahead of time by international organizations. After getting verified for eligibility using the CBPone application and testing negative for COVID-19, approximately 25 individuals were transported by international organizations to the U.S.-Mexico border this morning for processing through the San Ysidro Port of Entry. The process was orderly, safe, and efficient. CBP inspected all arriving applicants and provided guidance on how to print the electronic immigration forms as needed. After CBP and ICE processing was complete, facilitating organizations helped coordinate travel arrangements as needed.
“Today, we took the first step to start safely, efficiently, and humanely processing eligible individuals at the border,” said Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas. “It is important to underscore that this process will take time, that we are ensuring public health and safety, and that individuals should register virtually to determine if they are eligible for processing under this program. Physical presence at a port of entry is not the way to gain access to this phased effort, and people should not make the perilous journey to the border. Travel restrictions at the border remain in place and will be enforced.”
The Departments of State and Homeland Security are coordinating closely with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as well as the Mexican government and international organizations to ensure the program is in full compliance with federal, state, and local health orders. Individuals should register virtually at https://conecta.acnur.orgto determine if they are eligible for processing under this program. Those who register and are determined to be eligible will be given instructions—including date, time, and location—for processing through a designated port of entry. Additional ports of entry will begin processing individuals next week.
WASHINGTON D.C. – In response to the Biden Administration’s announcement it plans to officially rejoin the Paris Agreement, Rep. Paul Gosar (AZ-04) released the following statement: “First it was California, now it’s Texas. At a time when Americans have suffered energy blackouts during extreme cold and heat, Biden’s decision to go back into the Paris Agreement is a step in the wrong direction…unless you want more blackouts. The Paris Agreement, which is unenforceable in the United States until it is ratified as a treaty, will continue the failed Obama policies that made this country less energy independent. If you enjoy paying more for less, you will like this agreement. Under President Trump, the United States lead the world in energy production and carbon reduction, making substantial strides in both areas while simultaneously reducing our dependence on foreign sources of energy. It is alarming that Mr. Biden thinks once again we should cede our sovereign authority under this agreement, never considered or ratified by Congress, and driven by radicalized ENGOs and nations like China and Russia who have no real goals beyond using these foreign agreements to strengthen their dictatorships.”

WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Paul Gosar, D.D.S. (AZ-04) issued the following statement after introducing H.R. 1127, the Stop Foreign Donations Affecting Our Elections Act. This bipartisan legislation eliminates loopholes in the Federal Elections Campaign Act which allows foreign individuals or entities to unlawfully donate to political campaigns online, despite foreign political donations having been outlawed since 1966. “Debates over campaign finance reform have long permeated our political dialogue, but Americans should not have to worry about illegal foreign donations that have been prohibited by United States law for over half of a century. It is well-documented that online political donations made using a credit card can be exploited to mask tens of millions of foreign campaign donations, and this loophole must be closed. Technology offers great potential for the advancement of democracy, but it can also serve as its Achilles’ heel. Online campaign donations should be strengthened to close loopholes that allow foreign actors the potential to influence American elections. By requiring the disclosure of the Credit Verification Value (CVV) and billing address on all online political campaign donations, we can effectively seal off this loophole to protect the right to utilize the Internet to support political candidates of our choosing while bringing much needed transparency to who is funding our elections,” said Congressman Paul Gosar. Original Cosponsors: Rep. Don Bacon (NE-02), Rep. Anna Eshoo (CA-18), Rep. Doug Lamborn (CO-05), Rep. Seth Moulton (MA-06), Rep. Louie Gohmert (TX-01), Rep. Mo Brooks (AL-05) Background: U.S. campaign laws have barred foreign nationals from influencing our elections through campaign contributions since 1966. Yet, the lack of verification measures when online credit card campaign contributions are made threaten our democracy. Foreign entities should never fund political candidates in this country, however foreign actors have found ways to exploit loopholes in current law. In fact, a 2012 Government Accountability Office report highlighted this risk and found online donation systems to be extremely vulnerable to foreigners attempting to violate federal contribution limits. To close these loopholes and eliminate foreign monetary influence in our elections, this common-sense legislation amends Section 302 of the Federal Elections Campaign Act of 1971 to require both the disclosure of the CVV number printed on the back of a credit card along with the billing address for all online contributions. Online contributions lacking the CVV number will be prohibited. This commonsense fix to existing law will help ensure that any person making online donations is an American citizen making our electoral system safer and more transparent. |
