WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, Congressman Paul A. Gosar (AZ-04), Natural Resources Committee Ranking Member Bruce Westerman (AR-04), and other members of the Committee sent a letter to Mr. Biden calling on his Administration to support American mining jobs and stop selling out those mining jobs to Canada.
“It is unacceptable that this Administration is bartering the jobs of American miners, steelworkers, and laborers to Canada to make up for a decision it made killing thousands of American pipefitting and welding jobs. American miners and American mineral security should not be used as a trading tool to make up for Mr. Biden’s disastrous foreign policy decisions. The Biden Administration, beholden to radical environmentalists, is shutting down domestic mining while holding secret meetings with Canadian mining companies about opening new mines in Canada.
Meanwhile, House Natural Resource Committee Democrats are attempting to undo a bipartisan, bicameral agreement to develop one of the largest copper and tellurium mines in the United States. Our nation has been blessed with tremendous resources, the strongest environmental protections and the best workforce. The Biden Administration and House Democrats should support these good jobs, not pass along those benefits to foreign nations,” said Representative Paul Gosar (AZ-04).
“America leads the world in clean, safe mining. We should keep it that way. While our Democrat colleagues attempt to ban, prohibit and regulate the mining and energy industries into oblivion, we want to incentivize new innovation and more jobs right here at home. There’s no reason to outsource our mining needs overseas, where we have no control over environmental standards. American workers deserve better,” said House Committee on Natural Resources Ranking Member Bruce Westerman (AR-04).
“President Biden supports Canadians mining just miles from my district and in our very same watershed. Why are Canadians allowed to have high-wage, high-quality jobs, but Democrats oppose jobs within our borders? We have America’s domestic mineral needs in Minnesota, Arizona, and throughout the country. Let’s do it here with our workers earning high wages for their families and providing funding to our schools and communities,” said Representative Pete Stauber (MN-08).
Representative Lauren Boebert (CO-03) stated, “I’m disappointed but not surprised at the Biden administration’s efforts to destroy America’s mining industry. Biden’s America last policies take jobs away from American workers, hurt rural communities, and decimate our economy while strengthening China’s. The Green New Deal and Biden’s environmental schemes would require a large amount of mining and minerals. Democrats have repeatedly made clear they would rather have children mining with their bare hands in the Congo and other countries than good and safe jobs in America.”
“The Administration policy to increase demand for minerals and then export the mining jobs needed to produce those minerals is another example of President Biden snubbing America’s working families, trashing the global environment and decreasing energy security. In order to power America’s clean energy future, we must fully utilize our own domestic supply of critical minerals and put Americans to work to do so. Our national security and economic prosperity depend on us advancing smart policies that promote American labor and American resources, not increasing U.S. reliance on foreign adversaries with abysmal environmental records – like China – for such vital resources,” said Representative Garret Graves (LA-06).
Background: The Biden Administration has started an effort to meet with representatives from Canadian mining companies to arrange for Canadian mining to displace new American mines in the supply chain for critical minerals and new renewable technology manufacturing. The reportson the meetings highlighted “more-than 30 attendees at Thursday’s meeting who discussed ways Washington can help U.S. companies expand in Canada and overcome logistical challenges, according to the documents.” Additionally, an attendee at the meeting noted that the Commerce Department had not indicated whether they would provide monetary incentives to Canadian players in the mining sector, or to other companies in the supply chain. Earlier this month, Rep. Gosar wrote an op-ed that highlighted this issue and the importance of critical minerals.

Dear Rj,
Join us for the End the Filibuster Rally in Downtown Phoenix on May 20th at 5:30 pm.
Arcane, procedural rules like the filibuster will prevent Democrats from passing all of the popular legislation voters want. It’s time for Sen. Kyrsten Sinema and Sen. Mark Kelly to vote to eliminate the filibuster–no excuses.
We’ll be gathering with multiple Arizona organizations, including LUCHA, Progressive Democrats of Arizona, and the Arizona AFL-CIO to send a big message to Senators Sinema and Kelly–Arizonans want them to eliminate the filibuster now so we can pass all of the popular legislation voters want. From protecting our right to vote, to immigration reform, to labor protections, to climate crisis solutions, none of it will happen while the filibuster remains in place.
Event details for the End the Filibuster Rally in Downtown Phoenix can be found here. Masking is required, and vaccinations are encouraged. Exact location TBA.
See you there!

Abigail Jackson, Progress Arizona

Hayner Renewal Levy on May 2021 Ballot
Learn more at: www.troyhayner.org/voteforhayner
The Troy-Hayner Cultural Center has been the premier Arts Center in Troy since opening its doors in 1976. To date, the Center has hosted over 3,425 exhibits, concerts and special events, 2,250 art classes, over 675 local clubs & organizations have held meetings at Hayner and approximately 1,277,530 guests have visited the Hayner. Almost every Troy resident has a Hayner memory of a time they visited the House. For many, the Hayner has been the place where one celebrates special life events such as a beautiful Courtyard or East Room wedding, celebrating a special birthday or hosting family and friends for a milestone anniversary. Others may have been inspired by an exhibit that features a beautiful work of art or a musical presentation by a gifted musician. Or perhaps you discovered your hidden artistic talent, or refined that talent, by taking a watercolor or oil painting class. And since 1977, thousands of young ballerinas remember coming to the Hayner every week to study ballet with Miss Cyndy, and she is still teaching at the Hayner today! If you are a member of the Troy Lions Club, Altrusa International, 4H of Miami County or other local club or organization, you have called Hayner your home for regular meetings and special events for many years.
The Hayner motto is: “It’s Your House” and we strive each day to make the Hayner a place where you always feel welcome and at home each time you visit. Exhibits and concerts at the Hayner are always free of charge and open to the public as well as many of the special events we host throughout the year. The Hayner is able to provide most programming free because of the generous support of the Troy City School residents by their approval of an operating levy. The Hayner .85 mill renewal is on the May 4th ballot. This is a renewal of the current levy with no new taxes requested. Please support the Hayner with a “YES” vote on May 4th!!

David Wion is the director of the Troy-Hayner Cultural Center and Rachael Boezi is the Assistant Director but there is so much more than administrative work happening at the Hayner this spring. David is a gifted pianist and Rachael Boezi is outstanding mezzo soprano. The good news for Troy, Ohio is that these two co-workers are putting together a special concert of hits from the Broadway stage and Silver Screen. Both musicians are inspired by all the gorgeous glitter, glamour and shine that surrounds our American Divas. After a long winter of debate the two have agreed that Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand will be the theme of the concert. Enjoy many of your favorites like “I’ll Be Seeing You,” “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes,” “The Way We Were,” “Embraceable You,” “Someone to Watch Over Me,” “Send in the Clowns.” We won’t tell, if you sing along with Rachael, as loud as you can. No one will mind! Join us May 1, 2021 at TroyHayner.org/recorded-concerts for this fun nugget of sparkling song. It is sure to make a warm start to the month of May.This is a free downtown Troy, summer concert series thanks to our generous sponsors. Bring a lawn chair and your best friend to Prouty Plaza. With Dwight Bailey on bass, James Gaiters on drums and David Swank on keyboard, this band features an intuitive mix of pop, blues and Americana.Shannon Clark & the Sugar see themselves as Midwest Americana Soul. This Husband-wife-daughter family band from Darke County, Ohio writes and performs original music about love, loss, joy, and the struggles of the human condition. Please watch Hayner’s website for news and updates. The Paisha Thomas Quartet – Paisha is a native of Troy and Piqua. As a young woman, she followed her dream to pursue music as her full-time career. You can find her in the heart of Ohio’s music scene in Columbus, Ohio but her roots here inform much about her soulful, bluesy, folksy songs that ring with the truth of her experience. Paisha calls her style “Miami County soul/funk/gospel”. She is a descendant of the Randolph Freedpeople, a well-documented Miami County story of black migration. Like these stories, the poetry of her songs can be cutting, as well as full of hope and power. She is bringing her songs, especially the songs of her ancestors, the Randolph Freedpeople back home to Troy. She will be joined by Chris Shaw on fiddle and guitar, Reggie Jackson on drums and Paul Vineyard on bass and harmonica.Someday Morning – These musicians came together as a band in 2016 after a chance meeting at a party in Mechanicsburg, Ohio. Each had recently returned home after years of touring the county with different bands. Each had come back thinking about settling down in Ohio. It did not take long after the party for them to realize that this chance meeting could be the start of something they were looking for. They call themselves Someday Morning. Lead singer Troy Brown describes the band as:
“A four-piece band from small town Ohio with nothing to prove and nothing to lose. Great story telling with simple arrangements and melodies that go down as easy…It’s country, it’s rock, but at its core it’s just a group of blue-collar guys doing what they love.”Berachah Valley has been playing bluegrass together in our area since for over 16 years. Their sound is associated with tight female vocal harmonies and exceptional musical talent. Berachah Valley is what we have come to associate as the traditional southern Ohio bluegrass style. They have performed around this half of the country at every festival you can imagine and opened for so many talents such as Rhonda Vincent, Pine Mountain Railroad, Paul Williams and the Victory Trio, Joe Mullins and the Radio Ramblers and many more. This six-piece band includes the harmonies of Cathy Baker, Michelle Edester and Leisa Hinkle and Larry Collins. On Tuesday, July 20, 2021 Berachah Valley will be in the Hayner Courtyard for their Lucky Lemonade Concert Series. You will find Cathy on guitar, Michelle on mandolin, Becky Meyers on banjo, Leisa on percussion and Larry on stand-up bass.Alyssa Hanson Duo – Alyssa is very involved in the Dayton music scene. At one time she was the host of Mick Montgomery’s “Musician’s Co-op.” You will find her performing throughout the area at places like Yellow Cab, Dayton Music Fest, Piqua Arts Council and Moeller Brew Barn. A classically trained vocalist, she studied at Lee University in Tennessee. Eventually she made her way to Nashville and developed her own soulful-folk style with a bit of Broadway around the edges. She was co-writer and lead singer for Red In The Water on the album, “Chasing Change” in 2017. Alyssa will be performing as a duo for our final Lucky Lemonade Concert of the season. Her brother Tyler Hanson will join her on vocals and guitar. So What is PorchFest?Imagine 40 bands in a hodgepodge of styles and genres playing throughout the Southwest Historic district on porches, in side-yards, lots and patios. CIS Ombudsman’s Annual Reports: By statute, the Office of the Citizenship and Immigration Services Ombudsman submits an Annual Report to Congress by June 30 of each year. The CIS Ombudsman’s Annual Report must provide a summary of the most pervasive and serious problems encountered by individuals and employers applying for immigration benefits with USCIS. The Annual Report also reviews past recommendations to improve USCIS programs and services. Click here to view current and past Annual Reports.
Asking the CIS Ombudsman for Help: The CIS Ombudsman provides an impartial and independent perspective to USCIS in an attempt to resolve problems with pending cases. The CIS Ombudsman does not have the authority to make or change USCIS decisions. Before contacting the CIS Ombudsman, you must first try to resolve your problem through USCIS customer service avenues. Learn more on how the CIS Ombudsman can help here.
Recommendations: The CIS Ombudsman identifies systemic problems that individuals and employers face when seeking services from USCIS and makes recommendations with the goal of influencing change and improving the services at USCIS for both those who apply for and those who administer immigration benefits.
