My team and I have been busy traveling across our state hearing from Arizonans, including local leaders, stakeholders, and community members on challenges and opportunities facing the Great State 48 – including the recent passage into law of our historic, bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
At Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport last week, I proudly introduced and welcomed Gulfstream Aerospace’s $70 million investment in our state. Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport is the perfect home for Gulfstream’s expansion, which will boost economic opportunities and create hundreds of new, good-paying jobs.
We hosted the U.S. Forest Service Chief in Flagstaff so he and his team could hear directly from northern Arizona communities about the Museum Fire Burn Scar and subsequent flooding, and forest management issues including the recent cancellation of the second phase of the Four Forest Restoration Initiative (4FRI).
The U.S. Forest Service and Department of Agriculture both participated in our roundtable discussion with local Arizona leaders, stakeholders, and community members, which resultedin the announcement of $6.5 million in federal funding for Arizona: $3.5 million to rehabilitate the burn scar – including on national forest land and watersheds – and $3 million for flood mitigation at the Mt. Elden Estates.
On Veterans Day, we joined with Arizona veterans at the 2021 City of Sedona Veterans Day Tribute Event, where I thanked all Arizona veterans and their families who make incredible sacrifices so we can enjoy the freedoms we hold dear. I remain committed to delivering for our veterans by ensuring they get the benefits and care they’ve earned.
And on Friday, at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, Senator Mark Kelly, U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, and I had the chance to see firsthand how the critical investments in our bipartisan infrastructure law will make Arizona’s airports safer and more convenient. We also held a roundtable discussion with Arizonans to discuss how our historic infrastructure law strengthens Arizona’s – and America’s – competitiveness by making significant investments to address our supply chain challenges and create jobs.
I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve Arizona in the United States Senate. We’re delivering lasting results for everyday Arizonans by listening to the needs and concerns of communities all over State 48.
