A note on the tragedy at DCA from our…

Friends, Throughout Northern Virginia and across the country, we grieve for those lost in last night’s fatal crash involving a commercial plane and Army helicopter from Fort Belvoir at Washington National Airport. Many of us held out hope last night for loved ones, friends, co-workers, people we served with, and volunteers and today our reality is somber and heart-wrenching. Those of us with children struggle to know how to talk about this tragedy. Those of us who may be struggling already with their recovery, life’s pressures, and trauma may feel the grip of this horror even more profoundly. Please remember that you are not alone. Petco Love Adoption Rewards are paid out quarterly following Petco’s fiscal year. 4th Quarter adoptions (November, December & January) will payout by the end of February*. Organizations will receive a QTRLY scorecard via email with adoptions recorded to date. The next scorecard is scheduled for February 17, 2025. *2023 Annual Data Report required for payment. Rewards payouts occur the month following the QTR that the level threshold is met. Adoption Partners will be paid the difference between the larger award level threshold and the previous level reached each quarter. Please refer to your Quarterly Adoption Partner Scorecard for details related to the number of adoptions recorded at Petco for the last quarter. If the adoption numbers do not match your records, please contact your Petco General Manager to correct any mistakes. If needed, corrections to your Adoption Rewards payout will occur in the next quarter.

[SABR] Deadline extended for 2025 Local Grant applications

Dear Peter:

There are just a few weeks left to submit an application for a SABR Local Grant in 2025! Submissions will now be accepted until February 14, 2025. A Grants Review Board will review all submissions and respond with their final determination shortly after.

All SABR chapters, chartered communities, and research committees are eligible to apply. Individual SABR members and non-SABR groups are not eligible, so if you have an individual idea for a program grant, please follow up with your local chapter leadership or appropriate research committee to discuss an application.

The SABR Local Grants program provides an opportunity for chapters, research committees, and chartered communities to apply for funding for their projects under SABR’s Four Pillars: Research, Scholarship, Preservation, and Future of the Game.

The six projects that received a SABR Local Grant in 2024 are well under way, including a commemorative marker for Aberdeen Municipal Ballpark; a historical marker at the cemetery plot of Hall of Famer Dave Bancroft; and a two-day Dubuque Baseball Classic symposium.

Here’s a closer look at SABR’s Four Pillars, which are at the core of the Local Grants program:

The Four Pillars

• Research
  Research grant submissions should showcase the need for access to tools and/or infrastructure that will facilitate additional research on the game of baseball. Examples: Creation of a research committee database, digitization of research files/notes, support of a chapter research project.
• Preservation
  Preservation grant submissions should showcase the need to preserve, honor, or commemorate baseball history. Examples: Grave markers for notable baseball figures, commemorative plaques for historic baseball sites, restoration, or maintenance of pre-existing baseball landmarks.
• Scholarship
  Scholarship grant submissions should showcase the ability to share and disseminate baseball research to a broader audience. Examples: Research committee or regional research symposiums, chapter or research committee websites, tools/resources to activate local Baseball Memories programs.
• Future of the Game
  Future of the Game grant submissions should showcase the ability to engage with high school and/or college students through baseball research. Examples: Regional or committee-focused award programs, membership marketing efforts, funding for school partnership programs.

We are able to establish the SABR Local Grants program because of the overall health of our organization, which we owe to the sustained support and generosity of members like you. On behalf of all the future projects this initiative will help fund, thank you!
