If you’re angry about our health care system right now, you aren’t alone.
We’re angry too. Angry at so-called “non-profit” hospitals that aren’t giving their fair share back to our communities. Angry at insurance companies that put profits over people by denying coverage and jacking up premiums. Angry that 4 in 10 adults are burdened with medical debt.
Your anger, your passion is a powerful force for change. And by being a part of Community Catalyst, you’re channeling that anger into meaningful action.
Thanks to you, people like Terry Belk finally have hope. Terry lost his wife to breast cancer, and had to spend years battling aggressive debt collectors who came after him for their medical bills.
But Terry turned his grief into action. He decided to courageously share his story with Community Catalyst and our partners in North Carolina. And this fall, thanks to the attention generated by your support, Terry got a call from a health executive saying his medical debt was being cancelled—along with that of more than 10,000 other patients.
Terry didn’t stop there. He, along with other North Carolina residents, our coalition of partner organizations, and a growing movement of advocates like you across the country, helped win much-needed medical debt relief and systemic changes. Now, hospitals across the state are providing more financial assistance, and easing up on their debt collection practices. Millions of North Carolina residents will also have their medical debt relieved by hospitals.
These and other life-changing protections for patients are just a glimpse of what we’ve achieved together. Your anger, your passion, your commitment – it’s making a real difference.
We know there’s still a long way to go. But with your continued support, we can make health care kinder, more affordable, and more equitable.
Thank you for turning your anger into action. Thank you for being a part of the movement for health justice.
