A Special Anniversary Message From CEO Natalya Leahy

January 23 marks a defining moment for Lindblad Expeditions. On this day in 1966, Lars-Eric Lindblad—the father of our company’s founder, Sven Lindblad—led 57 adventurous travelers on the first non-scientific expedition to Antarctica. With this single groundbreaking voyage and his driving belief that travel done with purpose could change how people see the planet and their place in it, Lars-Eric Lindblad pioneered expedition travel—an exciting new way to experience the world.
Sixty years on, we celebrate his remarkable achievement and reflect on all that it led to—Sven Lindblad founding Lindblad Expeditions in 1979 to build on his father’s legacy by creating transformative travel experiences; an unprecedented collaboration with National Geographic; and tens of thousands of travelers who have experienced the wonders of the world in the company of like-minded individuals and returned home better for it. A short film featuring Sven offers a deeper look at the journey that began in 1966 and the values that continue to shape our expeditions.
Many things have changed in the 60 years since Lars-Eric’s first Antarctica voyage. Today, National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions operates a fleet of 24 small ships and explores over 100 destinations, but we are still guided by our enduring commitment to deliver the most immersive experiences in the world’s most awe-inspiring destinations. This is our North Star and has been since the very beginning. Our heritage of pioneering vision, innovation and integrity is reflected in the power of our state-of-the-art polar ships; in the skills and talent of our veteran captains, navigators and naturalists; and in the unmatched depth of expertise that informs each of our itineraries.
And just as it was 60 years ago, our voyages continue to attract curious, discerning travelers. This anniversary wouldn’t mean all that it does without you—our guests. You have trusted us with both your time and your treasure and you have inspired us to go farther and seek deeper understanding through exploration. On behalf of the entire team at National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions, I invite you to celebrate this milestone by exploring with us this year. I hope you take advantage of our special gift to you—our Anniversary Offer—and we look forward to welcoming you on board soon.
Thank you for being part of our story.
Warm regards,
Natalya Leahy
