Jeptha Homer Wade was one of America’s foremost industrialists and philanthropists. When he was still in his 20s, he painted a portrait of his landlord, Nathaniel Olds, wearing a pair of green tinted wraparound glasses, which were supposed to protect the eyes from the bright Argand oil lamps which were commonplace at the time. This sartorial option is so futuristic that it still turns heads now, let alone when the portrait was painted, in the 19th century!
We decided we could have a bit of fun with these peculiar spectacles and turned the painting into a cheeky birthday card.
This isn’t the first time we’ve injected a little Jacquie Lawson humour into a classic painting, nor is it the first time we’ve featured one in a birthday card. You can see these fun cards featured below.
So why not join our ecards subscription and send these cards and so many more?! It’s just $30 / £24 / €28 for an entire year!
Handy Tip! Don’t miss out on all the beautiful details of these masterpieces! View our cards in full screen by clicking the box at the right end of the card’s play bar.
With best wishes,
The Jacquie Lawson team
