96 POINTS FROM WINE ENTHUSIAST SAYING:
*Wine Enthusiast Cellar Selection*
“This nearly 200-acre estate lies in the south of the Margaux appellation. The wine is another great success in a series of superb years. It is rich but the structure and finely textured fruit give it style and longevity. Drink the wine from 2026.”
96 POINTS FROM JAMES SUCKLING SAYING:
“This has attractive, glossy, ripe red-plum and licorice aromas with cedar, flowers and red berries, as well as a stony edge. A very fragrant, cabernet-driven nose. The palate has elegance and grace with sleek and charming, balanced style and a discreet tannin structure that holds the finish long and fresh. A blend of 81 per cent cabernet sauvignon and 19 per cent merlot. Try from 2023.”
BACKGROUND:
Château Giscours has constantly reinvented itself to survive the centuries. Pierre de Lhomme, Marc Promis, Jean-Pierre Pescatore, Edouard Cruse, Nicolas Tari and now the Albada Jelgersma family – all ambitious and visionary estate owners who were passionate about pulling together the estate’s land and giving this vineyard, named a Third Grand Cru Classé in 1855, a reputation for excellence.
This 2016 blend is composed of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon and 19% Merlot… meaning if it was a California wine it would just be called Cabernet Sauvignon! Split into various spaces, the Giscours Winery has two vat houses devoted to winemaking – one for wines under the Margaux appellation and another for the Haut-Médoc appellation. It also plays host to wine maturation, as there are more than 1,500 barrels in the vast cellar. They work with some ten different coopers, who supply the winery with French oak barrels every year.
This Classified Growth in 1855 is the first label of Château Giscours. It is of great finesse and elegance. Delicacy and power are combined in this flask to bring you the elegance expected of a great Margaux wine. This wine is a blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon and 19% Merlot. Wine Enthusiast named this wine apart of their Cellar Selection and scored it 96 points saying “This nearly 200-acre estate lies in the south of the Margaux appellation. Big-framed, muscular tannins are joined by plenty of acidity – it’s very clearly built to last and confident in its ability to reward those with patience. Matured in 50% new oak. Axel Marchal and Valerie Lavigne consult.”
