BACKGROUND:
Faust’s “The Pact” Cabernet Sauvignon enchants with its deep layers of dark fruits, smooth espresso notes, and the signature minerality of Coombsville. The Huneeus family, founders of Quintessa, were pioneers in the Coombsville AVA, planting vineyards in 1998 after identifying areas in Napa Valley that could produce fruit perfectly suited to the wine style they envisioned.

Located in the southern part of Napa Valley, Coombsville AVA thrives due to its proximity to the San Pablo Bay, where cool air and fog combine to create fruit with lively acidity and firm structure. Faust Wines, known for its dedication to expressing the true character of the region, crafts its flagship “The Pact” Cabernet from the estate’s finest vines.

Winemaker’s Notes

With its vivid blue fruit and vibrant energy, the 2021 Pact might be a Coombsville prototype for years to come. Dark, exotic spice -with star anise in the lead – opens on a complex nose layered with sweet tobacco, savory herb and olive notes, and a lovely vein of graphite minerality under briar-kissed blueberry. The palate is electric, its deceptive power couched in chalky, tight knit tannins. Black raspberry joins blueberry, with wet slate and soil-driven, iron-rich minerality spilling into a long, perfectly balanced finish, serious and hedonistic at once.

“So many graphite and pencil shaving aromas here with blue fruits. Slate and tar undertones. Black and red currants. Some ash. Medium-bodied with open grained tannins. So much iron and rust with lead and mussel shell. Then turns to pinecone and cedar. Really complex and flavor intensive. Love to drink it now as a young wine. This evolves all the time. It will age beautifully. Better in three to five years. But I can’t wait.”
