I’ve been talking to Congress, now I’m talking to you.

Dear Peter,

Yesterday, members of the U.S. House Judiciary Committee debated whether to push forward the repeal of the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act—the only federal law protecting patients and providers from threats, harassment, and violence.

Without the FACE Act, there would be no federal penalties for extremists who blockade clinics, terrorize providers, or threaten patients. Peter, we need to fight back—with legal action, advocacy, and unwavering support for the people risking everything to protect reproductive rights.

These attacks are happening right now. Since Roe v. Wade was overturned, reports of death threats and violence have surged. This is not hypothetical. And Congress debating this repeal only emboldens those who seek to do harm.

Our clients are experiencing these threats personally. Eight people who attacked the Northland Family Planning Centers in Michigan, a Center client, were convicted of conspiracy charges and violating the FACE Act, only to be pardoned by Trump.

“And now Congress is attempting to repeal the law altogether, encouraging violence against both patients and health care workers,” Northland Family Planning Centers Founder Renee Chelian wrote in response to the repeal attempt. “There is no explanation for repealing this law other than purposefully inspiring violence against patients and clinic staff.”

Let me be clear: Threats to reproductive health care facilities are escalating, and we need your support to meet this moment.

Thank you for standing with us.

In solidarity,

Nancy Northup
