Gosar Reintroduces Federal Death Penalty Legislation to Combat the Fentanyl Crisis
This week, I reintroduced H.R. 3764, the Death Penalty for Dealing Fentanyl Act, legislation that would punish a defendant with the death penalty or life in prison if convicted of selling or distributing fentanyl that resulted in death.
Joe Biden welcomed nearly 20 million illegal aliens into our country over the past for years. Along with the flood of lawbreakers, more than 80,000 pounds of deadly fentanyl poured across the border. Every family in America can share a heartbreaking story about the deadly consequences of the fentanyl crisis. In fact, more than 105,000 Americans died from drug poisonings in 2023 with nearly 70 percent of those deaths attributed to synthetic opioids, such as fentanyl.
Thankfully, President Trump has taken important steps to halt the flow of fentanyl into our country. As a result, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention predicts a 26.5% national decline in drug overdose deaths from the previous year when Biden was last in office.
More should and can be done to support President Trump’s efforts. There are approximately 41 federal crimes that potentially carry the death penalty. However, the death penalty is rare in federal prosecutions, as very few federal executions have occurred since 1963. That’s something we need to look at more closely. Under the existing law, 21 U.S.C. § 848, you can only prosecute where there is “an ongoing series of felony violations of federal drug laws” in concert with five or more people. My bill addresses the true problem: just one person, acting alone, can sell or distribute fentanyl that kills many people. I will fight to have my bill voted upon and signed into law by President Trump.
Governor Hobbs Vetoes Bill Restricting CCP Land Ownership Near Military Bases
Arizona’s leftist governor, Katie Hobbs, vetoed a bipartisan bill this weekto prevent China from buying land next to American military bases and other strategic military assets. Even by her standards, the veto was unthinkably foolish and reckless. Arizona Senate Majority Leader Janae Shamp summed it best by noting the veto was “utterly insane,” and blamed Governor Hobbs for being “an obstructionist against safeguarding our citizens from threats.” China has attempted to buy and lease buildings alongside Luke Air Force Base in my district in Arizona. Now why would China do this? Two possible reasons include an attempt to spy on the United States or to gain control of American supply chains.
Unfortunately, Governor Hobbs doesn’t seem to understand or care that the CCP trying to buy up land poses a massive security threat. Twenty-two states have passed bills restricting foreign property ownership and Congress is considering several bills to address the same issue. In fact, I cosponsored H.R. 6383, the National Security Moratorium on Foreign Purchases of U.S. Land Act, which would place a moratorium on the purchase of U.S. land by foreign nationals for five years.
I sincerely hope and pray that the Arizona legislature overrides Governor Hobbs’ disgraceful veto. We must protect our nation from this ever-growing anti-American threat.
Chinese Bioterrorists Arrested
Speaking of China, I bet you didn’t read about this from the Fake News: two Chinese nationals have been charged this week with smuggling into the United States a dangerous biological pathogen that is classified as a terrorist weapon.
Yunqing Jian and Zunyong Liu, citizens of the People’s Republic of China, were receiving Chinese government funding for their research at the University of Michigan. The pathogen can quickly destroy food crops and produces harmful toxins to livestock and humans.
These latest arrests come on the heels of a Chinese student at the same university being charged last week with illegally voting in the 2024 U.S. elections. Thankfully, President Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are moving quickly to revoke the visas of Chinese students studying at American universities, focusing on those with links to Communist China. According to news reports, under the Biden administration, illegal aliens from China were the fastest-growing demographic of illegal border crossings. President Trump’s move is an important step in cracking down on espionage often perpetrated by Chinese students on behalf of the CCP.
Activist Judge Rules Transgender Prisoners Can Receive Taxpayer $$
Stop me if you’ve heard this before. Once again, another unelected, woke activist federal judgehas blocked President Trump’s executive order halting hormone therapy and accommodations for transgender inmates. You read that correctly: an activist judge ruled this week that taxpayer funds must be spent on any medical procedure or treatment sought by transgender prisoners. Let me set the record straight: our country is $36 trillion in debt, our bridges, airports and roads were ignored for four years under the previous administration and more than 35,000 veterans are homeless and desperate for help, yet this twisted judge is demanding that transgender prisoners must continue to receive taxpayer dollars from you and me so they can receive medical treatments that “align with their transgender ideology.” This is ridiculous, taxpayers should not be forced to pay for this nonsense.
Another Activist Judge Gives Comfort to Terrorists
But, but, but…it doesn’t stop there. It gets worse. In a separate ruling this week, another activist judge blocked President Trump from deporting the family of the Boulder, Colorado terrorist charged with firebombing dozens of people. The entire family are illegal aliens. The foreign terrorist committed immigration fraud to bring his family to the United States, all of whom are illegal and have overstayed their visas and all of whom should be deported. This judge is literally putting illegals, and in this case a terrorist, ahead of Americans. How much more do we have to tolerate from these rogue judges?
My bill exchanged several thousand acres of federal land (not tribal land) between the federal government and Resolution Copper. H.R. 1904 authorizes a fair value land exchange that would unlock the third largest undeveloped copper resource in the world and create thousands of jobs, generate billions in revenue and strengthen our national security by developing our own U.S. copper resources.
A local tribe claimed it was their land (it was not) and that it was somehow “sacred” (it never has been “sacred”). How do we know? The tribal historian wrote a detailed report after a comprehensive investigation and concluded the land at issue, Oak Flat, was never used by the tribe for any reason, much less sacred rituals. The claim that the land is “sacred” was both fabricated to stop the mine and pushed as part of a universal claim that “all land in the United States is sacred.” How do I know this? Because I personally held a half dozen meetings with tribal representatives and they told me this.
After my bill was signed into law by President Obama, Resolution Copper sought to develop the copper mine. Sadly, the radical left, using lawfare and sympathetic activist judges, delayed development for over a decade.
Thankfully, after years of lawsuits, the U.S. Supreme Court last week declined to hear an appeal effectively permitting the Resolution Copper project to move forward. The mine is set to become the largest copper mine in North America, potentially supplying a quarter of U.S. copper demand.
Americans are entitled to the benefits this law provides. Enough leftwing lawfare. Let’s get this mine going.
Team Gosar Tours Hoover Dam
Shout out and many thanks to Michael Chearney, Administrative Officer at the Hoover Dam for recently taking time to provide an amazing and invaluable tour to my staff. Did you know that the Colorado River is more than 1,400 miles long and supplies water to Los Angeles, San Diego, and Phoenix? In fact, Las Vegas gets almost all its water from Lake Mead which was made by the Hoover Dam when it blocked the Colorado River and flooded the Mojave Desert. The Hoover Dam is 726 feet tall. For some greater perspective, that is 171 feet taller than the Washington Monument in Washington, D.C. At its base, the Hoover Dam is as thick as two football fields measured end-to-end and as many as 20,000 vehicles a day drive across the 45-foot-wide top of the dam between Nevada and Arizona. If you’re looking for a fun-filled and educational trip this summer, I highly encourage you to visit the Hoover Dam. If you do, send me a picture and I might include it in my newsletter as the picture of the week!
