Here at Inseparable Action, we know that we can’t achieve better mental health policy without our amazing champions who advance mental health care across the country.
Today, we’re excited to spotlight two of them in Washington State!
State Senator Jessica Bateman and Representative Tarra Simmons both sponsored HB 1432: Fair Standards in Mental Health Care, which is a major step forward for mental health and substance use care for Washingtonians. It closes loopholes that prevent people from getting much-needed care, and acts as a model for the national movement in making mental health care accessible.
Passing this bill was far from easy — both Sen. Bateman and Rep. Simmons stood up to heavy pushback from the health insurance industry. They stood strong in the face of well-funded opposition, built support among their fellow legislators, and got this bill over the finish line!
It’ll make a huge difference for Washington State, and is exactly why electing mental health champions matters.
Thank you for being a part of our movement.
