Big names have continued to make strong cases for MVP hardware at the end of the season while others have surged in the polling to become strong contenders. While neither the AL nor NL race seems close at the moment, there’s plenty of time for things to change (but don’t necessarily count on it).

More than a third of the way into the season, it’s not just a slow start. So, consider this your regularly scheduled “what’s going on here” update. What is wrong – and are we yet seeing any signs of breaking out?

Almost every relief pitcher has a signature pitch. A few even become known for it: Think Mariano Rivera’s cutter or Trevor Hoffman’s changeup. We identified a few under-the-radar relievers who have all found success by featuring an ELITE pitch in 2025.
