BACKGROUND:
Château Le Coteau stands as one of the last family-owned estates in the prestigious Margaux appellation. Under the stewardship of Eric Léglise, the estate continues a legacy of traditional viticulture, emphasizing respect for the terroir and environment. The vineyards are cultivated with a commitment to biodiversity, reflecting the estate’s dedication to sustainable practices.
The “Andrena” cuvée is part of Château Le Coteau’s unique initiative to honor solitary bee species, with each vintage named after a different bee. The 2021 vintage pays tribute to the Andrena bee, highlighting the estate’s focus on ecological balance and the importance of pollinators in the vineyard ecosystem.
Winemaker’s Notes
The 2021 Andrena is crafted exclusively from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, sourced from select vineyard parcels. The harvest took place on September 10, 2021, ensuring optimal ripeness. Vinification was conducted with meticulous attention to detail, followed by aging in French oak barrels, a portion of which were new, to enhance the wine’s complexity and structure. The total production was limited to 3,000 bottles, underscoring the cuvée’s exclusivity.
