Governor Katie Hobbs is standing up to Republican extremism. Last week, she vetoed two more reckless bills from Arizona’s GOP-controlled legislature, bringing her total to 138 vetoes this year – just five shy of breaking the record she set in 2023.
And it’s no wonder. These bills reach dangerous levels of extremism – one wanted to mandate that high schools teach students about the “Gulf of America” – a fictional name Donald Trump unilaterally gave to the Gulf of Mexico. Many focus on attacking transgender people, and others restrict access to healthcare benefits.
Governor Hobbs is fighting back against these political stunts designed to distract from the real issues facing Arizonans. While Republicans push divisive, ideological bills, we’re focused on the real issues that matter to Arizonans.
But she can’t do it alone. With a Republican majority in the legislature, we need all hands on deck to elect more Democrats who will push back.
