Our federal legislators have failed to meet this important moment, so state leaders across the country are picking up the slack by passing legislation that prioritizes humane and ethical AI development. This bill would halt vital state work and leave us unprotected.
Let’s be clear – this bill is a gift to Big Tech. If passed, it could kill state legislation stopping the spread of political deepfakes, end state laws guaranteeing transparency when AI makes a decision about your employment or housing, and possibly freeze all state laws on AI. [2]
This tech is still being developed. In the meantime, it hallucinates, obfuscates, and is influenced by the people who program it. [3] We can’t afford to let Big Tech run with AI unregulated – it threatens the very fabric of our democracy. We have to take action now, before it’s too late.
