During Trump’s first-term, we organized and helped stop his repeated efforts to hold a military parade.
One time, we requested and were awarded a permit to host a 5-K road race on the parade route. One K for each of his deferments.
Trump’s at it again. It has a price tag of $45 million. 25 tanks, 50 helicopters, thousands of troops. And the centerpiece? At the end of the parade, Army paratroopers will make a jump and upon landing deliver an American flag to Trump — a birthday present for the dictator-in-chief.
This parade would be far from the national celebration that Trump claims, it would be an international embarrassment. His wishes for this event are not about celebrating the military, they are about his fragile self-image needing a public display of the military honoring him.
And he’s doing it as the House and Senate work overtime to pass a budget that takes hundreds of billions of dollars from services Veterans depend on to pay for a tax cut for the richest people in the country.
No.
If this parade is going to be stopped, it’ll be the voices of veterans who make it possible. But we can’t do it alone.

This is a president who has continually shown himself to have authoritarian tendencies and this is just another worrying example.
