Out of the five forbidden topics that no journalist dares to talk about in China, the number one is Falun Gong. This peaceful meditation practice is persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
The man who launched this brutal campaign in 1999 was Jiang Zemin, the former leader of the CCP. Jiang personally handed out propaganda material to world leaders to defame Falun Gong.
Why did he go to such lengths?
Because the international opinion was critical of Beijing’s actions at the time. And because the persecution of Falun Gong was unreasonable and unpopular inside China.
Beijing was cracking down on some 100 million innocent people who were striving to lead their lives by Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance—the main principles of the practice. The entire society was in upheaval.
And for 25 years, the regime has jailed these innocent citizens, emboldened by a motto that “the Communist party can crush anyone within three days.”
But despite the dangers of being arrested and killed, people have continued to follow the teachings of Falun Gong in China to this day.
