You may have heard that part of the historic Mansion is off-view during our landmark Mansion Revitalization Project, but rest assured, there is still so much to see and do at George Washington’s Mount Vernon!
We are doing more than just your basic spring cleaning: We are in the final stages of this epic preservation effort that will safeguard the Mansion’s original building fabric and ensure its structural integrity for generations to come.
This is a mansion-sized undertaking, and we receive NO government funding!
Gifts from friends like you allow our team to preserve and protect Washington’s cherished home while also offering exciting events and programs to keep the estate open and thriving.
While the preservation work is occurring, you can still explore areas of the Mansion like the study, New Room, servants’ hall, and kitchen!
You can enjoy one of our immersive experiences**, like the:
NEW! Patriots Path: Experience the American Revolution as you walk through an 18th-century Continental Army encampment featuring soldiers’ tents and an officer’s tent. At this hands-on attraction, you can touch the items inside the tents, wash clothes in the laundry yard, and examine cooking utensils.
Gardens and Landscapes Tour: Take a guided tour through the upper and lower gardens and learn about the founding flowers that recreate George Washington’s 18th-century landscape and gardens.
Hamilton the Musical Tour: Uncover the answers to many of the well-known questions from the hit musical, like, Where is Washington’s vine and fig tree? Where did Lafayette get the inspiration to fight with the guns and ships the French purchased? Where did Washington get the courage to say goodbye? Find these answers and more around the estate.
Distillery and Gristmill Guided Tour: Unlock the distillery where George Washington made his whiskey and the gristmill that produced thousands of pounds of flour and cornmeal a day. After the tour, you can pick up both of these popular goods at The Shops at Mount Vernon!
In addition, there are eight historic outbuildings on the estate to discover. These meticulously preserved buildings—like the wash house, blacksmith shop, greenhouse, slave quarters, and smokehouse—each reveal how life was lived at Mount Vernon during the 18th century.
And, when you donate $35 or more to help bolster our preservation and education efforts today, we will send you two free tickets to explore all Mount Vernon has to offer and see your philanthropy in action!
Now is such an exciting time to visit Mount Vernon as we honor the 250th anniversary of the start of the American Revolutionary War this year! We look forward to seeing you.
Thank you for your support.
My very best regards,
Doug Bradburn, Ph.D.
President & CEO
