NAMIWalks Northern Virginia.

NAMIWalks is our annual education and fundraising event that brings together hundreds of people (last year we had well over 300 people on Walk day) to be in community together and offer Hope. Every year, for 17 years, we have gathered 1) to spread awareness, build community, and share hope, and 2) to help us raise funds for programs that support and educate neighbors throughout Northern Virginia.

The Walk is FREE (even though we ask you to register). We know this is a difficult time for so many in our community. Join us. Be a part of our community and know you are not alone.

Registration Begins – 9 am

Walk Start – 10 am

There are SO many ways you can be a part of this amazing event:

• Register as an Individual! – Whether or not you can join us on May 4, register and receive all the great information we send as a Walk Participant. Even if you don’t come on Walk Day, you can earn incentives.
• Make your own team – Be a Team Captain. Invite your network (family, friends, co-workers… we always have many teams from companies and organizations showing their commitment to mental health). Create your own team HERE.
• Sponsor the Walk – Your company or organization can be a NAMIWalks Sponsor! There are so many benefits to being a sponsor, including incredible visibility. Interested in sponsoring? Get more information HERE.

In May, we will celebrate the power of storytelling to fuel connection, understanding, and hope for those navigating their own mental health path. 💚 Each story shared is a testament to the possibility of recovery and the strength that lies within us all.

PUBLIC NAMI In Our Own Voice (IOOV)

NAMI In Our Own Voice presentations change attitudes, assumptions and ideas about people with mental health conditions. These presentations provide a personal perspective of mental health conditions, as leaders with lived experience talk openly about what it’s like to have a mental health condition.

This presentation provides:

• An opportunity to hear open and honest perspectives on a highly misunderstood topic
• A chance to ask leaders questions, allowing for a deeper understanding of mental health conditions and dispelling of stereotypes and misconceptions
• The understanding that people with mental health conditions have lives enriched by hopes, dreams and goals
• Information on how to learn more about mental health and get involved with the mental health community

Would you like to help govern and set priorities for the future of NAMI Northern Virginia?

NAMI Northern Virginia is accepting applications for its Board of Directors. The NAMI Northern Virginia Board of Directors works collaboratively with our executive director and represents the interests of the members to govern (not manage) the organization, set the budget responsibly, establish priorities, values, and strategies, and provide guidance around various programs and services. Our goal in nominating potential candidates for Director is to have a diversity of lived experience and professional background that reflects the cultural, social, demographic, and ideological diversity of all residents of Northern Virginia.
