Last Week This Morning: It could happen to anyone
Good morning, Rj! Happy Sunday and welcome back to Last Week, This Morning! 🌞
It could happen to anyone. Last week, Trump refused to comply with a federal court order to facilitate the return of Maryland father Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who ICE illegally deported to CECOT, the notorious, for-profit Salvadoran torture camp. Then Trump openly said that American citizens would be next while hosting his new dictator bestie at the White House. This threat comes as Trump continues to weaponize U.S. institutions like the IRS and revoke visas for immigrant students, including over 100 ASU students. While these attacks started on immigrants, they were never meant to end with them. Trump and his billionaire friends are firming up their plans to abduct and disappear anyone who fights back against their authoritarian agenda. We must all stand in solidarity with immigrants and anyone targeted by Trump’s regime now. Urge your members of Congress to put political pressure on the Trump administration to facilitate the release of Kilmar Abrego Garcia.

The Trump regime is rushing to sell Oak Flat, a site considered sacred to Apache and other Native peoples, to a foreign copper mining corporation. Advocates have been resisting the sale of the land for over 20 years, which has been on hold since 2022, while the Supreme Court decides whether to take up the case. Trump says if the Court doesn’t act, the sale will go through as soon as June 17th. Advocates are calling on the Supreme Court to act now before it’s too late to stop the destruction of the land for profit, with no concern for environmental or religious impact.
A little good news, as a treat. Gov. Hobbs vetoed the Arizona ICE Act, a bill that would have turned Arizona police into ICE agents, giving them unlimited tax dollars to racially profile, arrest, and detain Arizonans targeted for deportation and disappearance by Trump’s lawless regime. As attacks on our communities continue to ramp up, this is the action Arizonans need to see from Gov. Hobbs. Immigrants are not scapegoats for government failures that place the interests of billionaires ahead of our own. This win is proof that when we organize, we can block harmful legislation and protect our people.

Donate to support Arizona’s May Day Rally. We need your help! Right now, billionaires are buying elected officials to concentrate power. These elites want to keep working-class families divided and isolated. They blame our neighbors, create scarcity, and try to keep us silent and afraid. They’re taking money away from schools, making it almost impossible to own a home, threatening our hard-earned social security, and destroying worker protections. That’s why we’re marching on May Day! Will you help us cover the cost of getting the word out? Any support you can provide will help us turn out another Arizonan on May 1st!
Thanks for reading Last Week, This Morning! ☕️
