Bebe should never have suffered this much. Found limping in pain on the streets of Queens, this 3-year-old cat’s injuries told a heartbreaking story. Most likely hit by a car, Bebe’s pelvis was fractured—but that will heal in time. The real damage was to her hind leg. At first, Bebe was set for amputation at the Animal Care Center in New York, but after they reached out for help, our Mobile Rescue Team jumped into action. Bebe was brought to our Pet Health Centers, where our Chief of Veterinary Staff, Dr. Mark Verdino, took immediate steps to save her leg. After treating a dangerous abscess that put her at risk of infection, Dr. Verdino and his team surgically reconstructed her femur, using metal pins and a stabilizing rod to realign the bone. |
