BACKGROUND:
Collin Cranor and Craig Ploof first met in 2010 while both were crafting wine in the Livermore Valley. At the time, one of Craig’s early projects was La Rochelle, a brand focused on producing single-vineyard Pinot Noir from some of California’s top coastal regions.

When the La Rochelle brand was eventually sold, Ploof and Cranor began seeking a small amount of Pinot Noir to launch a collaborative project that wouldn’t overlap with their respective Cabernet-focused ventures. This led to the creation of Typicité in 2017, with the acquisition of Pinot Noir from Tondre Grapefield in the Santa Lucia Highlands and Lichen Estate Vineyards in Anderson Valley.

Today, Cranor and Ploof have secured Pinot Noir contracts with Gaps Crown and Dutton Ranch, and produce their wine in Napa, CA.

The grapes for this 2022 Pinot Noir were harvested from Gap’s Crown Vineyard. Gap’s Crown is the one of the most notable vineyards of Sonoma Coast’s newly recognized sub-AVA, Petaluma Gap. At the base of Sonoma Mountain down to Robert’s Road in Penngrove, Gap’s is recognized by producers and collectors alike as one of California’s Pinot treasures.

The wines produced show vibrant aromatics, high tuned acidity, and classic Burgundian nuance. Various clones are planted in different parts of the vineyard to take advantage of the many elevations, exposures, and soils. Famed Pinot Noir makers like Kosta Brown and Sojourn have produced some of their best and highest scoring wines from this vineyard.
