It is the Final Countdown

Dear Peter,

Today is the LAST DAY of our America’s Home Matching Gift Challenge!

Thankfully, we are still giving a big high five to anyone who gives today by MATCHING YOUR GIFT AT ANY AMOUNT 5X.

Your gift today will go FIVE TIMES AS FAR to preserve George Washington’s cherished home. In fact, we recently began work on a spot everyone knows and loves, the piazza.

When sitting on one of the coveted rocking chairs, visitors get a glorious view of the Potomac River—a view Washington also enjoyed, stating:

“No estate in United America is more pleasantly situated than this…on one of the finest Rivers in the world.”

As part of the ongoing Mansion Revitalization Project, your gifts fueled the removal of paving stones outside the New Room and on the piazza to prepare for the installation of temporary shoring and new sills—a crucial stepping stone in ensuring the long-term preservation and stability of Washington’s home.

In addition to preserving and strengthening Washington’s Mansion, this landmark preservation project also uncovers fascinating history. Similar to the groundbreaking discovery of over 30 bottles of remarkably intact fruit in Washington’s cellar, an archaeological test area excavated on the piazza exposed the east foundation’s 18th-century brickwork and revealed the neat pointing and finishing of mortar during the Mansion’s original construction phase.

This is the first surviving example of the original finishing techniques documented in the modern era, as subsequent repairs to the Mansion’s north, south, and west foundations have obscured or replaced the original finishing details.

Your gift not only preserves history, but you are also uncovering it too!

We have accomplished so much together this year—imagine what we can do when your dollars can go FIVE TIMES as far!

Please give today to help us reach our $1,000,000 goal by midnight to honor Washington’s legacy through preservation, education, and inspiration.

Thank you for your support.

My very best regards,

Doug Bradburn, Ph.D.
President & CEO
