As a former Sheriff who mentored young officers for my entire career, I can’t help but think about how this evil prosecution will ruin this young officer’s life and career!
Officer Daniel Sanchez has already proven himself to be a capable officer since he joined the force in 2020, and he had a long and distinguished career ahead of him.
But here’s what threatens to destroy Daniel’s future…
Late one night, Daniel was dispatched after 911 got a call about a man with a gun outside a house.
As Daniel was pulling up, he could see a man with an AR-15-style rifle standing outside a house.
The man was pointing his rifle around and said, “Are you sure you want this?”
THEN THE MAN FIRED SHOTS AT THE HOUSE!
This wasn’t the situation that 911 described of a suspicious man with a weapon outside a house…
…this was an ACTIVE SHOOTER who appeared to be trying to break into a house and possibly threaten unknown people inside.
Despite knowing he was going into an active shooter situation, Daniel followed his training.
He got out of his patrol car, grabbed his service weapon, positioned himself behind a wooden fence that would provide him with some limited cover in case of a full-on gunfight, and ordered the ACTIVE SHOOTER to drop his weapon.
The shooter refused to comply and didn’t drop his gun.
Daniel, fearing for his own life and the lives of the other officers at the scene, used his firearm to neutralize the criminal — just like he was trained to do!
Bottom line: Officer Sanchez did everything right.
But then, District Attorney José Garza filed a third-degree felony indictment — against Daniel!
Now, as a result of a clearly justified shooting of an ACTIVE SHOOTER, Daniel’s career and his freedom hang in the balance.
I hope you’re as shocked as I am at the mistreatment of Officer Daniel Sanchez and will join his legal defense today.
