BACKGROUND:
Very rare Cakebread Cabernet Sauvignon! They blend this Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from special spots throughout the region, including the renowned cab appellations of Rutherford and Oakville, which impart classic Napa Valley bold fruit intensity, as well as the warmer Calistoga area to the north and the cooler southern reaches of the Suscol watershed, which contribute layers of complexity and depth of flavor. On volcanic rocky hillsides, grapes undergo a beneficial struggle that results in intense fruit, firm tannins, and distinctive minerality, while in the deep, well-drained soils of the valley floor, grapes develop ripe black fruit concentration, balanced acidity, and supple tannins.

Each year, they vinify dozens of different lots of Cabernet, assessing each one repeatedly in order to select only the very best lots for the final blend. The blend of this 2021 is 91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot, 1% Malbec and was Aged 17 months in 47% new French oak and 53% neutral French oak.

On the nose are pretty aromas of ripe boysenberry, dark cherry and cassis, coupled with scents of sweet oak and herbal spice, introduce plush, deeply concentrated, black fruit flavors bolstered by bright acidity and well-structured tannins. This classic Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon boasts a long, lovely finish featuring savory fruit, spice and mineral tones.
