Politics is all the rage these days. But with so many outlets covering the presidential election, you might wonder: How will the results affect you right here in Phoenix? And what’s going on in our local races?

We at Phoenix New Times seek to provide the answers that matter most to you. That’s why we’re curating our election coverage with you, our fellow Valley resident, in mind.

We look at what’s happening on the national stage and how it applies to you. Take the vice presidential debate between Republican J.D. Vance and Democrat Tim Walz. We watched that showdown with a group of Mormon voters who could swing Arizona — and the election — to Kamala Harris.

Meanwhile, we keep a close watch on our local candidates — particularly Ruben Gallego and Kari Lake, who are facing off for a spot in the U.S. Senate. When we pressed Gallego on his support from police — and his letter to the U.S. Department of Justice downplaying issues with Phoenix police — he turned tail and ran. We’ve thoroughly covered Lake’s election denialism and her ever-changing stance on abortion rights.

We know the facts carry only so much weight to voters. It can help to know what other locals are thinking about the most pressing issues facing Arizona. So, we ask them and then tell you what’s on their minds. That includes Proposition 138, which claims to protect the wages of tipped workers while actually cutting into them. Unsurprisingly, tipped workers aren’t big fans of it.

And let’s face it: Politics in Arizona can get weird. That was the case when a nude statue of Donald Trump showed up in Phoenix, and it was even more true when a Republican state senator objected to it by invoking Hurricane Helene.

Whether it’s a hard-hitting exposé or event coverage, we infuse it all with our no-nonsense voice. That’s because we know you don’t have time to waste this year, and neither do we.
