Welcome to the Cal Poly Green Community!

Cal Poly Alumni is excited to announce the launch of its first cross-curricular industry group, Cal Poly Alumni — Green Community.

“The main goal of the group is to bring current sustainability practices that are going on in the real world back to the student community and to get alumni involved,” said Matt Miller (Civil Engineering, ‘15), one of the volunteer alumni leaders of this new group.

This affinity community will span a variety of majors, industries and professions and will give back to current Cal Poly students by providing insights and best practices from sustainability industry leaders and experts.

Alumnus Aims to Protect California Resources

Chad Jackson (Earth Science, ’06) began his Cal Poly journey in electrical engineering, following his love of solving complex scientific and engineering questions. When he realized engineering wasn’t the right fit, he eventually found his way into earth sciences, where Jackson studied geology, environmental science and geographic information systems (GIS).

Those steps led him to where he is today: a professional archaeologist working to protect California’s natural and cultural resources in the face of a changing environment and a developing world.

“Our shared humanity — all the beautiful art and storytelling and science — there’s just so much rich human culture and that’s what drives me,” says Jackson.

New Cal Poly Letter Installation on Campus

The University Union Plaza has a new attraction for a photo-op!

The recently installed Hollywood-sign style letters that stand 8 feet, 9 inches was a collaborative effort among the ASI University Union Advisory Board (UUAB), Cal Poly Administration and Finance and University Communications and Marketing.

“We look forward to the positive impact this installation will have within our campus community, especially as we celebrate and show our commitment to being Cal Poly Proud,” said Aaron Fernandes (Industrial Engineering, ’24), 2023-24 chair of the UUAB.
