Arizona PBS Insider News from General Manager Scott Woelfel
Dear Executive, Signal and Legacy Society members,
Encouraging generosity is a rewarding role here at Arizona PBS. We hope you know how much your kindness and philanthropic spirit means to us. Thank you for your continued support of Arizona PBS.
We have some insider news for you on the Arizona PBS tower project! Two years ago at our December
Society Luncheon we announced that our broadcast tower on South Mountain was in desperate need of repair. And when we said desperate, we meant it. At almost 40 years old, the tower had become increasingly difficult to maintain. We often were not able to purchase parts for the timeworn structure, in some cases because the companies who made them were long out of business! We reached the point where we needed to replace the old tower and asked for help from our most loyal Arizona PBS supporters. Jerry Cox, in honor of his wife, Jennie Cox was the first donor to respond. This year, the generosity of a longtime donor couple Searle Wadley and Sue Hart-Wadley provided a start for the new tower with a gift of $5 million!
But we still have a ways to go. When we talked to you two years ago, the estimated expense to construct a new tower was approximately $5 Million. But, just like everything else these days, things got more expensive. The financial need is now closer to $7 million once we account for inflation and add in the electronics and state of the art equipment that will allow this tower to last for decades. And that’s where you can help.
You are already acquainted with our development team of Lucile Oglesby, Judy Theman and Jesse Ney. They would enjoy visiting with you further about more opportunities to support the Arizona PBS tower project.
On behalf of the entire staff, thank you for your generosity and partnering in our work to ensure Arizona PBS remains a viable media resource for Arizona.
With Gratitude,
