The 9th annual Pulse of the City Soiree will be a night to remember at the Omni Scottsdale Resort at Montelucia on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2024. Proceeds will benefit pediatric cancer care and research at Banner Children’s medical centers in Arizona.

This year’s theme, “Heart of the Garden,” will celebrate Banner Children’s dedication to helping children battling cancer—often the most fragile seeds in the garden of life—to bloom and grow up healthy and strong. We are pleased to announce our Presenting Sponsor, Arizona College of Nursing! Their generous support will ensure a bright future for Arizona’s children facing cancer.

For nearly 30 years, Arizona College of Nursing has been training health care professionals in Arizona and beyond. Their mission is to prepare students to participate in society and the workforce as productive, responsible, and engaged citizens and as educated individuals to meet the community’s future health care needs. This is accomplished through living their values and focusing on teaching within a highly structured and disciplined educational environment.

Their personalized, culturally rich, and dynamic learning environment fosters faculty, staff, and student engagement. Through didactic and clinical learning, students gain skills, attributes, and abilities that foster personal and professional growth, while preparing them as competent employees in their chosen health field.

Today, Arizona College of Nursing has locations in Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas, Florida, Virginia, and Utah.

The need: our youngest patients

Proceeds from the 2024 Pulse of the City Soiree will advance care, research and talent within Banner Children’s pediatric cancer care and research programs:

CARE: Proceeds will provide vital operating support for the Children’s Blood & Cancer Centers at all three Banner Children’s medical centers in Arizona, which provide family-centered cancer care including chemotherapy, surgery, and bone marrow transplant to more than 4,000 children annually. Diamond Children’s Medical Center in Tucson is the only Children’s Blood & Cancer Center in Southern Arizona and the only pediatric cancer center outside the Phoenix metro area.
RESEARCH: Proceeds will also support Banner Children’s medical centers’ full participation in the national Children’s Oncology Group, giving Arizona kids access to the latest and most promising investigational treatments right here at home, without the financial burdens of traveling out of state. Through collaborative research, the Children’s Oncology Group has improved rates for children’s cancer at a pace much faster than any one individual or single institution could accomplish alone.
TALENT: Proceeds will also support recruitment of expert pediatric subspecialists including interventional radiologists, geneticists, and palliative care specialists to offer kids and families world-class care and the most advanced and specialized treatment and support.

Meet our host committee chair: Susan Maisel, M.D.

Susan Maisel, M.D., is serving as Chair of the 2024 Pulse of the City Soiree benefiting pediatric cancer care and research. Having recently retired from her role as Physician Executive for Banner Medical Group Pediatric Specialties in Arizona, Dr. Maisel is board-certified in pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition. She co-founded Ascension Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis, where she served as Medical Director for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Medical Staff Co-Chief, and in a variety of executive roles.

She was co-founder, CEO and President of Surgery Center of Carmel, Indiana, for over 20 years. She served on the Board of Trustees for the Indianapolis and Indiana State Medical Societies for 25 years, serving as President of the Indianapolis Medical Society from 2016 to 2017 and continuing as executive advisor until joining Banner. Dr. Maisel has been involved with the Peyton Manning Gala since its inception in 2010 and honored for her work at the 2018 Gala by Peyton Manning himself.
