Good Morning!
I generally limit my sugar intake, but it’s hard in a world full of temptations. I often like to go to coffee shops to work in a more lively setting and freshly baked goods are my favorite indulgence.
However, a recent article on a new study, written by our reporter Jennifer Sweenie, helped quiet the chatter in my head about how much I should indulge.
The study, published in the journal Cell, found that a chemical released during sugar digestion temporarily switches off the body’s cancer-protecting mechanisms. This means the more sugar we consume, the more our cancer-protecting genes are disabled, increasing our risk. This may explain why those with diabetes, obesity, and a poor diet are more prone to cancer.
I decided to limit myself to 1–2 treats a week.
These great articles and findings help us stay in control. I’ve yet to see a study that says all sugar is bad all the time, just too much sugar too often. Thank-goodness!
Wishing you strength on your health journey!
