Darién Gap, Panama is a hundred-kilometer-long undeveloped rainforest often referred to as the “most dangerous death forest on Earth.” The entire area is strictly controlled by armed drug trafficking groups, while incidents of murder and sexual assault are rampant. Despite this, Darién Gap saw a record-breaking 520 thousand crossings last year, including 120 thousand minors, attempting to traverse this area to head north to the United States.
