Dear reader,
The pharmacy benefits of millions of hard-working Americans are under threat. Left-wing lawmakers like Bernie Sanders and AOC are pushing socialist policies, trying to ram them into a government funding package, that would mean new government mandates in our health care system.
These liberal politicians want to expand the government’s role wherever they can, even if it means increased costs for patients, taxpayers and families. We shouldn’t start the new year off with bad policies that would undermine our free market and hurt hardworking Americans.
Garrett Ventry, former chief of staff to U.S. Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO-04) and press aide to U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA), recently sounded the alarm in Newsmax on why conservative lawmakers shouldn’t play into the Left’s agenda to push new government mandates in health care.
“Legislation that targets PBMs has traditionally been championed by the left. In fact, President Biden is a huge proponent of this, as is Sens. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and Dick Durbin, D-Ill., and countless other progressives. When Democrats controlled the House, they weren’t naïve enough to spend precious time on legislation that Republicans wanted passed. So why should we help out the left?”
Former Senator Pat Toomey (R-PA) has also sounded the alarm, saying:
“Voters elected a Republican House majority in 2022, which shows that many Americans still believe in limited government and private market solutions. Should Republicans repay voters by passing an expansion of government interference in healthcare that will result in higher prescription drug prices for their constituents?
“Republicans should focus on healthcare reforms that allow the free market to innovate, improve the quality of care, and drive down costs. We should be encouraging more competition, not allowing the government to dictate business models, price controls, and winners and losers in our healthcare system.”
Conservatives must act now to reject the Left’s socialist mandates in health care that would eliminate key pharmacy benefits and would be a step toward a Medicare-for-all health system.
