Two House committees released reports Monday recommending that Hunter Biden be charged with contempt of Congress for defying a subpoena to appear for a closed-door deposition.
The Oversight and Judiciary panels are scheduled to consider the contempt resolution on Wednesday. If the resolution passes, it will move to a vote in the full House, which can then refer that matter for prosecution to the Justice Department.
Biden refused to testify at a closed-door session, insisting the hearing be open to the public. Instead, he held a press conference when he was supposed to be meeting behind doors with the House committee.
Fuel Leak Imperils Moon Mission After Launch
The first U.S. moon mission in 50 years ran into trouble just hours after its successful blast-off after it developed a fuel leak, dimming hope that its lunar lander would reach the moon’s surface.
Astrobiotics, the private company behind the mission, managed to orient its lander toward the sun to charge its solar battery but said the “critical loss of fuel” left it without the maneuverability needed for a soft lunar touchdown.
Another private company, Intuitive Machines, also backed by NASA, is planning a similar moon mission next month. It will use a rocket from SpaceX and will also attempt to carry scientific and commercial payloads to the moon’s surface.
Michigan Wins Football National Championship
The Michigan Wolverines dominated the Washington Huskies 34-13 Monday night to win their first college football national championship in 26 years. Here are the highlights.
Michigan’s defense got the better of Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr., who ended the game clutching his side and limping. On offense, Michigan ran for over 300 yards, led by running back Blake Corum’s two touchdowns.
For Michigan, it was a sweet ending to a dramatic year. The program was accused of cheating by stealing signals, and coach Jim Harbaugh was suspended for three games over it. Nonetheless, the team went undefeated.
