A Word from Hayner Director,
David Wion
We are all looking forward to bringing you a magical Holiday Open House experience with Children’s Day on December 2nd and the Grand Opening of the Holiday Decor on December 3rd. Santa tells me that he just can’t wait to visit with the children again and hear all their new ideas. The Study is a perfect place for that special Santa photo. The Grand Opening of the Decor will be just spectacular. The decorators have been thinking up new holiday ideas to delight and wow us! The live music we have planned for Sunday, December 3rd is just so wonderful. We really hope that you will include the Hayner in your holiday traditions.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, David

Visit our Holiday Decor!   December 3 – January 7

The Grand Opening of the Decor is Sunday, December 3rd from 1 to 5 pm. The Hayner welcomes families and friends to tour all the latest holiday décor installations. Every room of the house has been adopted by a local designer and transformed into a holiday wonderland. The Solarium is re-envisioned by Towne Valley Gifts and StoryPoint Troy has the décor for the Upper stair. Artists Kelly Rank and Ginger Godfrey transform the Art Gallery; Your Personal Florist will re-create the Parlor. The Conference Room has fresh designs by Sheila Fulks and James Novotny. Georgia Bayman adds her touch to the Boardroom and West Room. The Hayner’s Exhibit Committee and the Upper Valley Fiber Guild make their mark on the exhibit areas and Hayner’s own Zoe Darner has designs for the Ballroom.

It is a very special setting for a memorable Christmas photo. Special thanks to the Altrusa International of Troy, Ohio for helping Santa with all the books.
Holiday Open House Sunday – Grand Opening of the Holiday Decor
Sunday, December 3, 2023 from 1 to 5 pm
Sunday is the Grand Opening of the Holiday Décor with refreshments and music in the East Room all day. The Hayner welcomes families and friends to tour all the latest holiday décor installations. Every room of the house has been adopted by a local designer and transformed into a holiday wonderland.

This year our designers are Mary Nilsen and crew in the Courtyard, East Room, lower hall and staircase. David Fair and Company are designing the Study.

The East Room will house an outstanding assortment of musicians this year. These musicians, bands and groups are local to the area, bringing a feeling of family and community to the day. The event begins at 1:00 pm with Rachel Sagona’s fabulous Troy Tones. This A Capella choir is from Troy High School and promises to elevate the day with their bright harmonies and energies. At 1:30 Ron Phyillaier, a Hayner music teacher and staff member shares the charming vocal talents of his granddaughter Rheya Clark. Rheya is also a Junior High Student of Ms. Sagona’s! At 2:00 Josh Bledsoe and his brother-in-law Brian Leingang share some of their favorite holiday songs on guitar and percussion in an acoustic-pop-rock style. At 2:30 Jay Cullis brings his effervescent warmth to the East Room. He will share his Christmas favorites with a roots-based style. Drew Ihle has an Americana-folky perspective on Christmas. He starts at 3:00 pm. Expect some of his originals as well as some special holiday numbers. The exceptional Trojan City Music students of Chris Aldridge share some string and vocals at 3:30 pm. The Senior Music connection performs at 4:00. This group has some favorite bells and carols to share under the direction of the vivacious Krissy O’Malley. Riverside Bell Choir play their hearts out at 4:30 pm. This inspiring and fun group works under the direction of Diane Cerbus.

Holiday Open House is a great way to experience the richness of the Hayner. This eventful weekend is free and open to all. Hayner’s Drawing Room Chamber Series features Dr. Kevin Nordstrom, viola and Ming-Li Liu, piano

The Drawing Room Chamber Concert Series will present an exceptional voila and piano concert on Tuesday, November 28 at 7:30 pm. Dr. Kevin Nordstrom and Ming-Li Liu will be performing their favorites pieces. This free series is an intimate experience that allows concert musicians the opportunity to speak directly to the audience about what inspires them about their selections. The series is free to the public and an excellent opportunity for students of music to gain new perspective on their instruments from professional musicians.

On viola is Dr. Nordstrom, an active performer, composer, educator and scholar. He is currently viola instructor at Wright State University as well as Lecturer of Viola at the University of Louisville. He has also served on the faculties of Earlham College, Indiana University East, Xavier University, and Miami University Hamilton. He is the creator of The Great Composers Podcast, found on iTunes. The podcast discusses the life and history of Bach, Beethoven, Kreisler and more. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from The University of North Texas, and the degrees of Master of Music, Artist Diploma, and Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music where his secondary studies were in music history. He is co-founder of the Aurelian Trio with whom he performs regularly. He performs on a rare American viola from 1893 by Jerome Bonaparte Squier. Squier, was known as the “American Stradivari,” but made only a handful of violas. It is a rare treat to hear this instrument.

Accompanying him on piano is Ming-Li Liu. Liu has earned two master’s degrees, one in solo piano performance and one in collaborative piano. She is currently pursuing her doctoral degree in piano performance at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. She has won numerous awards in Taiwan and the United States, such as the 2019 Wideman Piano Competition, and took first prize in the chamber music category in the 2022 Gershwin Music Competition. She was awarded first prize for concerto performance in Rong-Hsin Music Competition and was the winner of the Soochow University Concerto Competition. In 2023 she gained first prize at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music Chamber Music Competition.

The Dianne Coble Ensemble returns to the Troy-Hayner Cultural Center
Sunday, December 10 at 3:00 pm

The Dianne Coble Ensemble will return for an all-new holiday concert in the Hayner Ballroom. This large choir will share some happy antics and fun Christmas cheer on Sunday, December 10 at 3:00 pm. The choir will put their soulful Motown harmonies to such favorites as “Everyday People,” “Silver and Gold,” “Go Tell it on the Mountain,” “Emmanuel” and much more!

Since 2012 this large choir has been sharing their message of joy in music all around the Dayton area. Dianne Coble got her start in Troy and was a Troy High School graduate. She now travels with a popular 12+ member choir of outstanding vocalists.  Expect to hear your favorite Christmas hymns and carols, and make plans to receive some heightened holiday spirit. As Dianne says, “There is no greater means of expressing the season’s joy and uniting people than through music.”  The Hayner is a great place to share it.
