Dear RJ,
If you read the news daily, you know it is starting to feel like our country is unraveling, and our representative democracy is barely holding on. But there is a silver lining to all this! The power of our collective action that drives people to the polls election after election to keep our democracy.
The power of people like you – who make our work possible – is making a difference! With the Virginia Election a week away on November 7, it has become clear that when we come together to mobilize voters, Black voters turn out and vote. In counties where we have been engaging voters, turnout is significantly higher. For example, in Hampton, 56.13% of Black voters have voted early, and in Roanoke, 29.5% of Black voters have voted early so far! In counties where we have not engaged Black voters, turnout is under 10%.
Our efforts matter. And your support makes them possible! We need your help to make it all the way to November and then get ready to work in other key states like Georgia, North Carolina, and Alabama in 2024.
Join us on Sunday, November 5 at 7pm ET for a last chance to support our Virginia efforts and help us prepare for 2024. We are excited to be joined by the one and only Simon Rosenberg, president of the NDN/New Policy Instituteand author of Hopium Chronicles! We will also hear from Janice Gay of the Norfolk and Virginia Beach Democracy Center as well as Ray McClendon from Communities United for Justice in Georgia.
