U.S. to Land Unmanned Spacecraft on Moon
The U.S. is headed back to the moon within a few weeks, testing a new privately-built lunar lander ahead of NASA’s planned 2025 manned moon mission. It will be the first moon landing for Americans since Apollo 17 in 1972, and the world’s first commercial moon landing.
The private NOVA-C lander was built by Intuitive Machines in Houston and will launch from Florida in mid-November. It’ll carry NASA instruments and commercial cargo under contract with NASA to a “soft landing” on the lunar South Pole. Here’s a photo.
The mission is one of several to transport cargo and collect data ahead of the manned mission. The goal is to carry heavier cargo loads each time, paving the way to build permanent infrastructureon the moon.
Gallup: Americans Satisfied With Their Lives
The vast majority of Americans are satisfied with their personal lives, despite the world’s troubles, according to a new Gallup Poll that shows 83% saying they are “somewhat” or “very” satisfied.
Gallup measured life satisfaction across nine categories, including family life, work life, housing, community, health, and income. Family life scored the highest, with 90% saying they were “very/somewhat satisfied.” Here’s the detailed breakdown.
The 2023 personal satisfaction levels align with the range Gallup has seen for the past 45 years. The lowest satisfaction scores were in 1979, and the record high was in January 2020, just two months before the Covid pandemic struck.
“Friends” Star Matthew Perry Found Dead
“Friends” star Matthew Perry drowned this weekend while in his hot tub at home. Police said no drugs were found on the scene, and no foul play is suspected.
Perry struggled with drug addiction problems throughout his life. In his recent memoir, he said he spent $7 million on rehab programs, almost dying at one point from opioids.
