Blue Note Juke Joint is one of our highest recommended products for folks who are looking for a great value, high proof bourbon. We truly think that a great bottle of Blue Note can give higher proof Buffalo Trace products a run for their money. We’ve been fortunate to have a history of some great single barrels and private blends, and we are back again with another delicious three barrel blend. If you were a fan of the Apple Pie Batch, you are going to love this.
Blending these always starts off as a bit challenging. You find yourself sitting in front of ten sample bottles, aiming to create something delicious. Luckily, it becomes simpler when you begin with Juke Joint barrels. After tasting through all ten samples, I categorized them into four piles based on their flavor profiles: sweet, fruity, spicy, and oaky. I then assigned grades to each sample based on how strongly they represented each characteristic.
For sweetness, there were 2 samples I considered as 5’s and one as a 4. In the fruity category, I had one sample rated as a 5 and two as 4’s. The spicy category consisted of two 4’s. As for the oaky samples, there was one rated as a 4 and another as a 3.
With these ratings in mind, I started crafting a blend that would strike a balance in representing each flavor. It seemed like the most obvious choice was to blend three samples rated as 5’s together. To save time, I won’t go into detail about each blend I considered.
In the end, I created a final blend that consisted of a 5 in sweetness, a 5 in fruitiness, and a 4 in spiciness. This blend turned out to be a fantastic mix, bouncing between flavors reminiscent of caramel coffee cake and fruit roll-ups! I hope you enjoy this unique blend.
This nose is fruuuuity. Strawberry, grenadine, green apple, all with a bit of toffee, heavy demerara syrup, and milk chocolate to boot.
The palate is dense and chewy with spiced apples leading the way. Fragrant baking spices add depth to the pour, not just for heat-sake.
The finish is coating, revisiting the red fruits and bringing in some more cooked fruits as well. The spiced apple turning more into apple candies. Toasted vanilla, barrel char, and spiced caramel in a long trailing linger.
