To me, McBrayer is the new Kentucky Owl. They have a true family legacy of bourbon. They’ve used that story to honor the family history. Most important, they’ve done so with great whiskey. The original Old McBrayer is a label from the 19th century. It wasn’t until 2013 that Bill McBrayer found out there was a history of whiskey in his family. He was taking his daughter on college visits and stumbled across the families deep history in the whiskey business! This took him on a path. After laying down new make as a couple different distilleries in Kentucky, he waited. In 2021, the McBrayer name was back on a bourbon bottle for the first time in decades. This WH McBrayer Batch 3 uses McBrayer’s original mash bill, which was discovered on the back of a handwritten letter he wrote to E.H. Taylor in 1870. 88.4% Bloody Butcher corn, 5.8% heritage rye, and 5.8% malted barley. Using a low entry proof, this one comes in barrel strength at 103.5 proof.
