It should be no surprise to anyone that follows Seelbach’s that New Riff is one of our favorite distilleries. Even after several years of doing barrel picks with them, we are consistently impressed with their ability to have, for all intents and purposes, “craft” style hands-on with their production but at a consistency and efficiency that rivals the legacy brands.
We’ve been building out our video catalogue on YouTube from some of our partners so look for a video at New Riff in the near future, but for now here’s a little behind-the-scenes of our pick for today’s bourbon and rye single barrel release.
The bourbon is walnut topped French toast on the nose, and creme brûlée with raspberry on the palate, finishing with a slight toastiness. The rye is a rich and coating beaut, candied lemon caramel cake with nice oakiness. There’s no wrong answer here but I’ve always been a fan of New Riff ryes, and this is a dang good example of New Riff rye.
We also have a handful of the Lost Lantern’s Summer of Bourbon New Riff offerings still available if you are looking for more Riffiness.
