Sine Die! The Arizona Legislature finally adjourned sine die after the longest regular session in state history – 204 days! This session, lawmakers passed 347 bills. Of those, Gov. Hobbs signed over 200 into law, and vetoed a record-breaking 143. Though they knew it was a waste of time, Republican lawmakers largely bowed to the far-right Freedom Caucus, sending hateful and dangerous bills to the Governor that were dead on arrival. And while we did see some bipartisan wins, the Republican majority used anti-democratic methods to block a lot of good bills.

Prop 400. Before adjourning, lawmakers passed SB1102, referring Prop 400 to the ballot for Maricopa County voters to decide. Prop 400 is an extension of the half cent transportation tax that funds road projects and public transportation in the County, with greater impacts for the state. Despite voters approving this tax since 1985, some far-right lawmakers put partisan politics over what is best for Arizona. 20 Republicans voted against sending the measure to the ballot, seeing it as a “win” for Gov. Hobbs, despite the tax being supported by voters and needed for our state.

AG Kris Mayes stands up for abortion access. Mayes joined 20 other states to challenge an Idaho law that makes it a crime for an adult to help a minor travel out-of-state to access abortion care that is illegal in Idaho.
