The Arizona Diamondbacks have acquired the following players:
  • RHP Paul Sewald (SEE-wald) from the Seattle Mariners for INF Josh Rojas, OF Dominic Canzone and INF Ryan Bliss.
  • INF Jace Peterson and cash considerations from the Oakland Athletics for RHP Chad Patrick.
  • RHP Peter Strzelecki (STREZ-lecky) from the Milwaukee Brewers for LHP Andrew Chafin.
  • OF Tommy Pham and cash considerations from the New York Mets for INF Jeremy Rodriguez.

Paul Sewald
RHP │ B/T: R/R │ Age: 33 (May 26, 1990) in Las Vegas, Nev. │ 6-3, 219

  • Converted a career-high 21 saves in 24 save opportunities this season with the Mariners, going 3-1 with a 2.93 ERA (14 ER in 43.0 IP), 60 strikeouts and a .196 opponent average over 45 games.
  • His 21 saves rank tied for 10th in the Majors (also: David Bednar/PIT) [min. 40 appearances].
  • Has not allowed a run in 34 of his 45 appearances…was scoreless in 11 of his 16 games vs. NL opponents.
  • Since the All-Star break, has gone 1-1 with a 1.35 ERA (1 ER in 6.2 IP) with 4 saves.
  • Since 2021, his 236 strikeouts are fourth among MLB relievers, behind Josh Hader (244), Devin Williams (242) and Craig Kimbrel (237), while his 52 saves are 15th most in the Majors.

Jace Peterson

  • In 93 games for the A’s, hit .221 (62-for-281)/.313 OBP/.637 OPS with 7 doubles, 2 triples, 6 home runs, 28 RBI, 36 walks and 11 stolen bases while defensively playing third base (77 games/63 starts), second base (20 games/15 starts), left field (1 game) and designated hitter (1 game).
  • In 2022 for the Brewers, played in 113 games and hit .236 (68-for-288)/.316 OBP/.698 OPS with 14 doubles, 2 triples, a career-high 8 home runs, 34 RBI, 33 walks and 12 stolen bases.
  • In 2022, his 68 hits, 113 games and 24 extra-base hits were his most since 2016 (89 hits, 115 games and 24 extra-base hits) while his 34 RBI were his most since 2015 (52 RBI).

  • Made 36 appearances with the Brewers this season, going 3-5 with a 4.54 ERA (18 ER in 35.2 IP) and 37 strikeouts.
  • Has not allowed an earned run in 27 of his 36 appearances this season.
  • Went 2-0 with a 0.66 ERA (1 ER in 13.2 IP) and .196 opponent average in his first 14 appearances from March 30-April 29.
  • Has held righties to a .214 average (15-for-70) with 4 walks and 25 strikeouts.
  • Holding opponents to a .213 average (13-for-61) with 16 strikeouts in late/close situations.
  • Made his Major League debut in 2022, going 2-1 with 1 save, a 2.83 ERA, 40 strikeouts and .220 opponent average in 30 appearances.
  • Has combined to go 5-6 with a 3.69 ERA and 77 strikeouts over 66 appearances in parts of 2 MLB seasons (2022-23).
  • Originally signed by the Brewers as a non-drafted free agent on June 13, 2018.

Tommy Pham

  • Hit .268 (62-for-231) with 15 doubles, 1 triple, 10 home runs, 36 RBI, 29 walks and 11 stolen bases in 79 games this season with the Mets.
  • Has double-digit homers and steals in a season for the fifth time in his career.
  • Is 1 of 21 active players with 100+ home runs and 100+ steals.
  • In 2022, led the majors with a career-high 15 outfield assists, all playing left field.
  • Since 2018, ranks among all left fielders in stolen bases (2nd, 79), runs (4th, 384), games (5th, 691), hits (5th, 616), walks (5th, 326), total bases (7th, 1,016), sacrifice flies (T-8th, 16), doubles (T-9th, 115), triples (10th, 12) and home runs (10th, 87).
  • Over 955 career games, is batting .260 with 151 doubles, 19 triples, 124 homers, 399 RBI, 436 walks and 108 stolen bases.
