Matthew BooseKevin McCarthy (R-Ca.) is threatening to impeach Merrick Garland over alleged interference in the Hunter Biden investigation.
The Speaker told Fox and Friends Monday that Republicans will begin an impeachment inquiry by July 6th if whistleblower accounts of corruption prove to be true.
“By July 6, because of the allegation from the IRS because of the whistleblowers and the DOJ are Garland, what he is saying and what David Weiss are saying privately are two different things,” McCarthy said.
“And if it comes true what the IRS whistleblower is saying, we’re going to start impeachment inquires on the attorney general because it – a matter of fact, it shows that.”

McCarthy raises impeachment
Anger over a two-tiered justice system has reached a fever pitch after the DOJ ended its five-year probe of Hunter Biden with a slap on the wrist, even as it pursues Joe Biden’s rival Donald Trump with a vengeance.Two IRS whistleblowers, Gary Shapley and a second unnamed agent, have alleged the Hunter Biden probe was obstructed from its early stages.
McCarthy has asked Delaware U.S. attorney David Weiss to testify to Congress about the whistleblowers’ allegations that he was blocked from bringing charges by the Biden Justice Department.
At an October meeting, Weiss told a room of six witnesses that he was not able to bring charges, Shapley said.
“He surprised us by telling us on the charges, ‘I’m not the deciding official on whether charges are filed,’” Shapley told the House Ways and Means Committee last month.
Investigation continues
Garland has rejected the claims — and all criticism of the DOJ as an attack on “democracy.”“I don’t know how it would be possible for anybody to block him from bringing a prosecution,” Garland said.
McCarthy has resisted efforts to impeach Joe Biden as premature, taking a more cautious investigative approach instead.
He credited House Republicans’ persistence with the uncovering of a damning text message from Hunter Biden to a Chinese business partner that appeared to make a direct reference to Joe Biden, despite the latter’s insistence that he was never involved in his son’s business deals.
“The whole reason you have the WhatsApp message is because the work House Republicans have been doing,” McCarthy said.
