Last Sunday’s first-of-five Darien Cars and Coffee events is in the books.
To be honest, we were a little nervous that, despite all the planning and advertising that went into this, we’d wind up with only 30 or 40 cars. While that would have been a decent showing for a first event, the parking lot would have looked empty, but by 7:30 am, it was clear that wasn’t going to be the case. The cars kept coming and coming.
In the end, we maxed out the spaces we had available. More than 160 amazing cars showed up, and we probably had another 250 spectators who filled up the Mechanics Street lot across the street. Thanks to our friend Jim, we even had the real, not-a-reproduction, trophy awarded to the 2nd-place finisher of the 1979 Cannonball Baker Sea-to-Shining Sea Memorial Trophy Dash race on display. It was a special day and we’re doing it again on Sunday, July 9th.
Season sponsors Riley Volvo, Riley Mazda, and Riley Motorcycles will be on hand with some cool toys. They’ll be joined by the folks at The Auto Spa of Fairfield, Premier Auto Tag Services, and Titan Energy. PARKING AND ADMISSION
Spectators: Admission is free. Parking is available at the Mechanics Street parking lot (red area) diagonally across the street from Goodwives. Just follow the signs.
Show Cars: Show cars will be parked on-site (green area). The cost to show a car is $15 in advance ($20 day of) but remember, that includes your coffee, your lanyard, and your ID. Spaces on-site are extremely limited, so please RSVP early.
