Do you know when Military Appreciation Month was officially designated?

Dear Peter,

Did you know that May was officially designated as Military Appreciation Month in 1999? This month was chosen largely in part because of Memorial Day, but it also holds other important days, like Armed Forces Day (May 20, 2023) and Military Spouse Appreciation Day (May 12, 2023).

At the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, we are grateful for every opportunity to recognize our servicemembers, because we know first-hand how much these heroes and their families sacrifice for our freedom.

We also know how important it is to do more than say, “Thank you for your service.” That is why the MCSF was established more than 60 years ago. As our Nation’s oldest and largest provider of need-based scholarships to military children, we honor those who have served by bringing together real need and lasting impact.

While we can never fully repay our servicemembers, we can promise that we will leave no eligible student of a Marine family behind — a commitment we’ve upheld through more than 50,000 scholarships.

We hope you’ll find time this month to honor a servicemember close to you. You can also join us by learning more about our impact or donating to Honor Marines by Educating Their Children.

Semper Fidelis,

Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation
