The Okefenokee Swamp—North American’s largest blackwater wetland—holds incredible cultural and ecological significance, but a proposed strip mine threatens to devastate this treasured landscape.

The Okefenokee contains the largest national wildlife refuge in the eastern U.S. and habitat for roughly 1,000 species of plants and animals. The swamp is also the homeland of several Indigenous Tribes and continues to be a vital cultural and economic resource for Tribes and other community members. But Twin Pines Minerals’ plans to open a destructive 8,000-acre mine on unprotected land at the edge of the swamp jeopardize all that.

Right now, the Georgia Environmental Protection Division is accepting public comments on the proposed mine. We have to tell them to stop this project before it’s too late!
