We’re making news in London:
This week, we’re celebrating the launch of HIAS+JCORE in the United Kingdom.
This moment marks the coming together of HIAS and the Jewish Council for Racial Equality (JCORE) — two organizations with long histories of supporting refugees and asylum seekers — and expands HIAS’ international reach amid the worst displacement crisis in Europe since World War II.
We spoke with Rabbi David Mason, HIAS+JCORE’s incoming Executive Director, about JCORE’s historic and ongoing work in the U.K., and the vision for the future as part of the HIAS family.
Read a sneak peek of the conversation below:
HIAS: What are your aspirations for how best to bring together JCORE’s work with HIAS’ role as an increasingly global NGO?
Rabbi Mason: I’m really excited by the relationship with HIAS. It’s been great getting to know the team and the leadership so far. I think that our relationship with HIAS will enable us to mobilize the Jewish community in this country and grow a number of projects supporting refugees and people seeking asylum. It just opens up a horizon for JCORE here, to bring more Jewish people into our work as volunteers.
We can do more education, improve our advocacy work, and strengthen our messaging. With HIAS’ support and know-how, we can do that.

Thank for you continued support,

Vice President, Communications
P.S. You can join the celebration, too! Watch the launch event live from London on Tuesday, March 28 at 2:30 pm ET / 11:30 am PT. BBC presenter Yalda Hakim will host as we honor Dr. Edie Friedman, JCORE’s Founder and Executive Director, and hear from HIAS President and CEO Mark Hetfield, Rabbi David Mason, and others.
